Dr kevin spencer

Dr. Kevin D. Spencer, MD, CCFP(EM), P.Eng, is the President and Founder of KDS Medical Engineering Inc. and its Division of Innovation for Space Health.

Dr. Spencer is a medical doctor and mechanical engineer from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.  Dr. Spencer currently practices as an Emergency Physician at Dartmouth General Hospital, and also serves as the Director of Simulation Education at Dartmouth General.

Dr. Spencer is an Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine at Dalhousie University in the Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Spencer completed medical school at Dalhousie University in 2009, Family Medicine Residency at the University of Ottawa in 2011, and holds the CCFP(EM) Certificate in Emergency Medicine.  Prior to medical school, Dr. Spencer completed EMT-P training in Pittsburgh, and worked as an Advanced Care Paramedic, and also holds Wilderness EMT certification.

Dr. Spencer completed a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Nova Scotia in 2000 and is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Nova Scotia.  Broad engineering work experiences include Medical Device Startups, Offshore Oil & Gas, Telecommunications, and Fiber Optics, with companies ranging from startups to large corporations. Dr. Spencer has experience in mechanical design, mechanical packaging, and product development from concept phase through to market phase.

Dr. Spencer was also one of 72 finalists in the 2016/2017 Canadian Space Agency Astronaut Recruitment Campaign, an application process that started in the summer of 2016 with 3772 initial applicants, for 2 Astronaut positions that were filled in the summer of 2017. This experience served to further develop professional interest in astronaut healthcare for human space exploration. Partnerships derived from this experience have become the foundations of this Division of Innovation for Space Health.
